Waterpik wp-100 vs wp-660: Which Powered Water Flosser Should You Choose…?

Why Choose A WATER Flosser…?

Well, that little string that you currently use to floss you’re teeth just isn’t very efficient. In fact on the Waterpik description, they claim that it is up to 93% more effective than traditional flossing. My dentist has been recommending me one for years and I will be getting one soon (one is enough for the whole family as long as you have enough tips for everyone).

waterpik ultra vs aquarius

Waterpik wp-100 Ultra

Waterpiks can get underneath the gum line and all in between your teeth to remove hidden debris and bacteria. The result is that you will end up with a much healthier and clean mouth.

Appearance and Size

These waterpiks aren’t very different in look. Both have a base which holds the water reservoir and flossing tips. Connected to the base is the handheld flossing tool. It is connected with a coiled hose. There is also a dial on each of them where you control the water pressure. Both are white, but the wp-100 also has blue accents. The tank or water reservoir is a translucent blue on the wp-100 while simply clear on the wp-660. Depending on your bathroom décor, the wp-660 may match better because it is more neutral.

Neither of these products is very large. The wp-100 measures about 7x6x9 while the wp-660 measures around 4x5x6 and weigh less than two pounds. That’s definitely small enough to fit under your cabinet or on your countertop without too much of an issue.

Performance

  • Performance will be pretty similar with each of these powered flossers as they both have 10 pressure settings. The technology is clinically tested to remove up to 93% of plaque build up. In fact, the features that would separate these machines performance wise are limited to just two.
  • The big difference between these two is that you will get the gum massage feature with the wp-660. This feature, with its hydro-pulse modulation technology allows you to safely and gently massage your gums. To activate this feature you simply press a button and there is an LED indicator light that tells you which setting you are currently using.·
  • The wp-660 will also has a kind of pause feature. At 30, 60, and 90 second intervals, it will pause for a second or two to help you pace your flossing efforts.
  • · The psi range for the WP-100 is 5 to 90 psi and the WP-660 has a range of 10 to 100 psi.
  • On the wp-660 there is an on/off switch on the handle whereas the wp-100 has a button that you have to press to pause the flow of water.
  • On the 660, there is a 1-minute timer to alert you to how long you’ve been flossing.

Water Tank

Water will work fine but it is okay to use other “dental professional recommended solutions”. I’ve come across users whom use a mixture of water and peroxide or Listerine or other mouthwash. Both of these WaterPiks have the same water reservoir capacity. It is measured in seconds rather than in ounces. Both of these machines have a capacity of about 90 seconds meaning that you will be able to run the machine for about that long before you run of fluid.

Power Cord

Both of these power cords are a little more than 4 feet in length which gives you more freedom where you can locate your machine.

Hose

For both, the hose is coiled. This coil helps to make sure that your hose isn’t all over the place. Although some have claimed that the hose is too short. After reading through the reviews it seems as though there may be some problems with the longevity of it. Some reviewers claim that the hose becomes brittle over time. Others don’t complain about this issue.

Floss Tips

The wp-100 comes with 6 floss tips while the wp-660 comes with 7. Both come with general use tips and a variety of other tips for different orthodontic needs like braces or implants. Check out the comparison below for more details...

Noise Level

Some people are more sensitive to noise than others. However, after looking over some of the reviews it seems as though this machine is loud. Of course, as you turn the dial to increase the pressure you will the noise level will increase as well.

Warranty

Both of these machines come with 3-year warranties.

Summary

After looking over both machines in the Waterpik wp-100 vs wp-660 comparison, I think that you should go for the 660. Although, from what I gather, if you were able to use these two products side-to-side, you probably wouldn’t notice a big difference in the performance. Both will clean your teeth about the same. But there are some features on the wp-660 that improve usability; led mode indicator, handle on/off switch, timer, and 30-second interval pauses.

The wp-660 comes with an additional tip as well as the gum massage feature - that feature could be worth your while if your gums are a particularly sensitive area for you. If you’ve narrowed your choice down to these two models. I think that as long as the price difference (if there is one at time of purchase) isn’t too great, I’d go with the wp660, it’s simply the better water flosser.

Other WaterPik Models to Consider…

There are many different WaterPik models available that are worthy of your consideration. Below you will find a brief synopsis of each of them. You will also come across a comparison chart that lays out all of the important differences between the machines in an easy to understand format.

VS WaterPik Designer Series WP-670, WP-672, WP-674, WP-676

  • Description
  • Pros
  • Cons

The WaterPik Designer series offers the same features as the wp-660. The biggest difference between this model and others in this comparison is that it is from the “Designer” line and is available in the following premium colors: vibrant teal, radiant pink, brilliant black, and pearly white.

You will also see chrome accents. These premium colors will most likely require that you pay a “premium” but it shouldn’t be too much. Overall I think that any of these models in the designer series will work out well for you.

Compared To WaterPik Cordless WP-360

  • Description
  • Pros
  • Cons

Like the wp-450, the wp360 is a cordless option and a very affordable one. It isn’t feature rich. You will only find an on/off switch. There are no pressure settings. Instead, there are two different tips; a high-pressure classic jet and a low one. This is an affordable option that could serve to introduce budget conscious shoppers to the highly recommended world of water flossing. But, you can definitely do better.

Waterpik wp-360

Waterpik WP-360

This wp-360 does have some drawbacks. For one it only has a 30 second capacity and its lack of features may leave some users wanting more.

VS WaterPik Cordless Plus WP-450

  • Description
  • Pros
  • Cons

The wp-450 is a lot different than the other models on this list. It is a portable unit and gives you the ability to travel easier with it. But when things become more compact they usually give up some features. The wp450 is no different. With most countertop WaterPik flossers you get up to 10 pressure settings to choose from. The 450 has just 2; low and high. You’ll also have to give up some power; there are numerous customers that report that this unit is not as powerful as their countertop counterparts.

Waterpik wp-450

Waterpik 450

If I were choosing just one model, I wouldn’t go for the 450. I would only buy it as a companion to my main water flosser when it would be more convenient during travel. You might find that the 450 is an inexpensive option to add to your arsenal.

Compared To WaterPik Complete Care WP-900

  • Description
  • Pros
  • Cons

The WP-900 is different from the other units on this page because it includes a sonic toothbrush. The flosser includes 5 tips, 10 pressure settings and 90-seconds flossing capacity. It’s a lot like the wp-100.

waterpik wp-900 water flosser

Waterpik wp-900

The sonic toothbrush, operates at over 30,000 strokes per minute. It has 2 brush heads and a 2-minute timer and spaces alerts in 30-second intervals. On the handle, you will find dual speed controls; low and high. There is also an LED indicator for the battery life – to charge you simply place the brush on the base.

VS WaterPik Classic wp-60/65

  • Description
  • Pros
  • Cons

The wp60 is one of the classic or older models but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t a good choice. It’s just as powerful as the wp-100 and it’s designed to be self-contained. The water reservoir doubles as a cover to store the unit which makes it very convenient for travel and storage. Unfortunately there is no cover for the water reservoir itself which may or may not be an issue for you.

The features of this machine are kind of frustrating. For example, the pressure control system is actually located on the handle which is a convenient and surprising feature. But also surprising is the lack of a pause button. Without one, there is no way to stop the flow of water except by turning the machine off. So, before turning the unit on, you will need to have the flosser in your mouth to prevent the water from spraying everywhere. That could be annoying.

But on the flip side you get a very large reservoir at 33-ounces – you won’t have to refill it as often. You get 3 tips and 6 pressure settings with the wp-60 or 65 which is far less than most of the water piks on this list but probably still good enough to get the job done well.

If I were choosing a WaterPik from the models listed on this page, I wouldn’t choose this model. I don’t think that it’s a bad product but it just isn’t as good as the more premium models on this page.
