Philips Hue Bloom

The Philips Hue Bloom and Go belong to the range of portable light devices manufactured by Philips. Both have been given a stylish and modern look, albeit different. Philips Hue Go resembles half of a sphere or a soup bowl and is made of polycarbonate. The Bloom, in comparison, is smaller and resembles a disk with a metal body and white finish. The Go has white, translucent body, unlike the metal finish of Bloom. Users have remarked that the body of the Hue Go is very prone to get scratches. Both are small enough to be carried anywhere you want to take them and can be placed n spots where it is might be difficult to fit a lamp.  However, both lack any sort of ceiling or wall mounting.

Philips Hue Go features 6 W LED, in comparison to the 8 W LED of Philips Hue Bloom.  As per the manufacturer, the LED life span for Philips Hue Go is 20,000 hours and that of Bloom is 12,000 hours.

Portability

Philips Hue Bloom is a plug-based device. That means it needs to be plugged into a power socket for it to work. Although small and easy to carry. This makes the portability limited. The power adaptor is permanently wired into the body of the lamp. In contrast, the Philips Hue Go has a rechargeable lithium ion battery fitted. This means, that you can use it even without plugging in. This makes it a feasible option to take the light source anywhere with you, even outdoors. The manufacturers claim the battery life to be about 3 hours. Users have found that it varies between 2-3 hours. The more power consuming natural white light mode, though forces the lamp to turn off after just 2 hours. The battery takes about 1.5 hours to charge fully and is non-replaceable.

Light Quality

Philips Hue Bloom produces about 120 lumens, making it not a very bright source. This does not seem to be a major problem as the Bloom is intended mainly to cast light on the wall as ambient light. The Philips Hue Go produces around 300 lumens, which is significantly higher than Philips Hue Bloom. Overall, the Bloom is reported to cast a brighter light with a more focused beam. The Go casts a broader glow due to lack of metal housing.

Colors

Both the Philips Hue Bloom and Go are capable of casting up to 16 million different shades, colors, and brightness of the light. Both provide comfort dimming. You can cast either a pre-programmed light as per the different moods, or create your own environment. The Philips Hue Go has seven different color settings that are pre-programmed. These include two white color settings (static effects) and five natural dynamic effects. The dynamic effects include Cozy Candle (red to orange), Enchanted Forest (yellow to green), Night Adventure (blue to red), Sunday Coffee (orange to purple) and Meditation (green to violet).

Controls

Both the lamps are easily controlled with your smartphone or tablet using the Hue App. The App is available for free to download on both Android and iOS. You can also set alarms for the light to be turned on, or change the light colors as and when you want, and play around with them in whichever you want. Users love the versatility of these devices. The lamps can also be remotely controlled when you are not home.

Although the Hue Bridge is not imperative for using these lamps, connecting these to the bridge does add to the functionality. Also, you have no way of controlling the brightness of the light through your phone, if you do not have a bridge. You can add multiple Philips Hue products on a single bridge (up to 50) and control them individually or in a group.

Compatibility

Philips Hue Go

Both the gadgets are compatible with IFTTT (If This Then That) service. Moreover, you can also voice commands to operate them, albeit with a bridge. You can sync these to match your movies, games or even music. Philips has also recently added geofencing, which implies that the lights can be set to automatically turn on or off when you come or leave home. These features are identical in both the lamps.

Additional Features

The functionality of Philips Hue Go and Bloom both can also be amped up by adding an optional motion detector. If the lamp is in standby mode, it will turn off when motion is detected.

Warranty

Both Philips Hue Bloom and Philips Hue Go are protected with a warranty of 2 years from the manufacturer.
