Toto Neorest 550 vs 550h: Which of these Super-Toilets is Best for You...?

Design, Appearance and Construction

Toto Neorest 550 vs 550h

Toto Neorest 550

Both have a skirted elongated bowl design. They are designed as a one-piece unit consisting of a toilet seat and a washlet. The toilets also incorporate the tankless water system. The body of the toilet unit has a special ceramic non-porous finish that makes it virtually impossible for waste to stick to the toilet and as a result, inhibits the growth of mold, bacteria and other harmful microorganisms.

Size and Colors

They both have a regular universal toilet height and a standard 12-inch rough-in. The Neorest 550 has three color options: Colonial White, Cotton White and Sedona Beige, while the Neorest 550h comes in either Cotton White or Sedona Beige.

Flushing System and Water Conservation

The Neorest toilets are designed with a tornado flushing system. This is by far one of the most effective toilet flushing system. The siphon jet force of the trapway combined with the high speed of the water and the exclusive Neorest rimless seat design ensure everything is flushed away. The units also incorporate an auto-flush system, strengthening their claim of a hands-free luxury toilet.

Both are designed with a dual flush function. There are two flushing options and the toilet is automatically programmed to select the option which can most effectively flush in any situation based on several factors. Neorest 550 offers an efficient water conservation system of 1.6 gallons per flush or 1.05 gallons per flush. The more modern 550h from Toto offers an even more efficient conservation of 1.0 gallon per flush or 0.8 gallon per flush.

Nozzle and Washlet Modes

Both Toto Neorest toilet seats are designed with a washlet and single nozzle for washing purposes. This nozzle is made from plastic and can serve three different washlet modes: front, rear, and soft. This is made possible through its adjustable length and multiple spray vents. The rear washlet mode is for handling posterior wash, while the front wash is for feminine cleansing. Both the rear and front wash modes use the oscillating and pulsating spray option. The soft mode gives a soft and final spray before you dry.

The position and spray width of the nozzle can be adjusted for maximum washing effect.

Oscillation and Pulsating Spray Modes

Both luxury toilets have two spray options: the oscillation mode and the pulsating mode. In the oscillation mode, the nozzle moves back and forth during washing and the water pressure remains constant. With the pulsation mode, the water pressure varies as the nozzle moves back and forth.

It is important to note that both toilets come with a control for adjusting the water pressure to user satisfaction.

Adjustable Temperature for Washing, Drying and Seat Heating Features

The tankless instant-water-heating system of both Neorest toilets gives users the luxury of washing with warm water. After washing, the toilet seats also provide a drying option. Warm air is produced for a drying cycle of about 2 minutes. This cycle can be repeated as many times as possible.

Both seats are designed with a sensor that gets activated once occupied. On activation, the seats begin to warm up to a comfortable temperature.

The temperature of the washing water, warm air for drying and the heated seat can be varied manually according to the user’s taste via the temperature control button on the remote control unit.

Ewater+ Feature

The Neorest 550h offers its users the electrolyzed water feature popularly referred to as ‘ewater+’. This water has excellent sanitary features as it prevents the growth of microbes in the toilet. This feature sadly is lacking in the Neorest 550.

The single nozzle found in both Neorest toilets is designed to be self-cleaning. However, because the ewater+ is used in cleaning the Neorest 550h’s nozzle, it makes the nozzle and the toilet in general more hygienic and sterile than the Neorest 550.

The Neorest 550h also pre-mists the toilet bowl with ewater+ before and after use to make flushing easier. If the toilet is not used after 8 hours, the toilet bowl would be pre-misted automatically for sanitary purposes.

Automatic Air Deodorizer

Both toilets have in-built carbon filters for absorbing any odor and leaving the room smelling fresh and clean.

Control Unit

Both have a wall-mounted remote control unit.

Convenient Features

Both toilets feature an automatic open/close lid feature. Here, the lid and seat automatically open and close via a body-sensitive sensor embedded in the seat. Once a human being approaches the toilet, the sensor is activated and the lid opens. After usage, the toilet lid closes itself after a specific time interval.

Apart from fostering its hands-free experience and eliminating the need for users to manually open and close the toilet’s lid, the automatic open/close lid feature of the Neorest toilets also prevents the common occurrence of the lid slamming down on the seat after use.

They both feature a night light that provides illumination during the nighttime.

Power

Both toilet seats come with a rating of 120V, 60Hz AC and must be connected to a special power outlet for them to function. With the energy saving features off, they have a maximum power consumption of 1200W.

Energy Saving Mode

They both feature an energy saving mode that consumes less power. This mode reduces the heating effect of both the water and the seat. Users are advised to use this feature mostly during summer to reduce electricity bills. For winter however, it is recommended to turn off this feature so that your seat can be warmed before you sit on it and the water used to wash would be warm enough during the cold season.
