Sea Eagle 330 vs 370: Which Inflatable Kayak is Right For You…?

Appearance and Size

Sea Eagle 330 Inflatable Deluxe Package

These boats look the same. Both are white with blue decals. They are good looking inflatable boats and a lot like their hard shell cousins. When inflated, the Sea Eagle 370 measures 12ft. 2in. long and 2ft. 10in. wide and the 330 measures 11ft. 2in. long and 2ft. 10in. wide. The 330 weighs 26 pounds while the 370 weighs 32 pounds. So, the Sea Eagle 370 is about a foot longer and 6 pounds heavier.

Both come with carrying/storage bags with a strap for easy transport to the water. Either is light enough to carry alone although some have complained that they are a little heavy. You will have to determine that for yourself. This will most likely depend on how far you are away from the water source you wish to traverse.

Capacity

As you can see above, the se370 is a larger boat that the se330. It can hold up to 3 people and/or 650 pounds compared to 2 people and 500 pounds. This difference in capacity makes a difference according to customers. You end up with a little extra room which will make your adventures a little more comfortable. I also discovered that this added length has another benefit; typically longer kayak’s track better.

Comfort

Sitting down for long periods of time can be annoying to say the least. I read over some customer reviews and most said that sitting in these kayaks was comfortable. I’ve come across feedback from people that ranged in size from relatively short to tall.

Others complained that their just wasn’t a whole lot of leg room. The back passenger will need to cross their legs (depending on their height and size). Some say that these aren’t “true” two person kayaks and your experience would be best with just you, some supplies and maybe a small dog. Of course, all of these opinions will be based on prior experience with other kayak’s and size, expectations.

Leg room isn’t the only thing that makes these kayaks comfortable, the inflatable/removable seats with the high-backs are said to be very comfortable as well.

Performance

Hard-shell kayaks are faster than either of these models, but I’ve come across customers who have said that either of these models cut through the water pretty well. Both have two skegs on the bottom which makes for better tracking. Tracking refers to the forward motion of the kayak. A kayak that tracks well is easier to maneuver and more efficient to paddle. Without those skegs, you’d be wasting a lot effort paddling. After doing the research I think that they perform well, but for the most part, the performance will be determined by your own ability as a kayaker.

Durability

Both of these kayaks are made of rubber and the hulls are made of very thick K-80 polykrylar material. In the manufacturing process, both were made using 10,000 volt welds so that separate pieces become one. The difference is that the 330 has a 33 millimeter thick hull and the 370 has 38 millimeter hull. But rest assured that both of them can handle bumps and thumps that you are likely to encounter if you take them on rapids.

Both are NMMA (National Marine Manufacturers Association) certified. This special safety certification ensures that your sea vessel has been built to top safety standards.

Valves

Both models come with self-bailing drain valves. These valves make sure that any water that does end up in your boat is quickly drain out. This ensures that your boat doesn’t fill up with too much water and capsize. There are other valves too, like the Boston valves that you use to inflate your kayak. The Boston valves allow air in but not out.

Pros and Cons

Because these kayaks are so similar, most of the pros and cons apply to each of these kayaks.

Summary

When it comes to the Sea Eagle 330 vs 370 I think that you should go with the 370. After coming across multiple customer accounts, it seems that most people have a more comfortable experience with it. It is roomier with more than a foot of more space than the 330. The hull on the 370 is a little thicker – 38 millimeters compared to 33.

But, if for whatever reason you do decide to go with the 330, it’s not a bad choice. Perhaps you will be going out on the water by yourself and won’t need the extra space.
