So whichever one you choose you can expect to have the same level of quality. However, there are differences between these machines that will affect the performance.

Schwinn 430 vs 470: Which Elliptical Cross Trainer Should You Choose…?

Why Get An Elliptical Machine In The First Place?

Scwinn 430

Well, there are a variety of reasons that you might opt for an elliptical machine over other exercise machines. For one, they are low-impact machines – meaning they won’t put much stress on your joints. So, if you are nursing an injury or suffer from some other chronic ailment that prevents you from using other exercise machines, this could be for you.

These machines aren’t just for people with physical afflictions, however. They also the average Jane or Joe a work out that can vary from light to intense. Perhaps you might just want another exercise machine to mix it up a bit. I know I can definitely get tired of doing the same aerobic exercise day-in and day-out.

Appearance and Size

These machines are practically twins. You’ve probably seen these machines as they are very popular and look alike. They are mostly black with just enough red accents to give it that pop of color and make it stand out. I like the design as it is more contemporary compared to the boxy old-school versions you might across (most likely from brands that don’t have the design budget of Schwinn). I love companies (like Dyson) whom understand that while function should be number one, aesthetics is important too.

These machines aren’t lightweights, the both weigh around 210 pounds. Some have complained that they are a bit heavy, but you have to understand that these machines can handle up to 300 pounds.

They aren’t small exercise machines. The dimensions for the 470 are about 70" L x 28" W x 63" H and the 430 is around the same (a couple of inches shorter). To make transport easy there are wheels on the bottom.

Performance

You have many more options with the 470 compared to the 430. The 470 has 29 exercise programs compared to 22 for the 430. You can have 2 user profiles with the 430 and 4 user profiles with the 470. You will have 25 levels of resistance with the 470 and 20 with the 430. I don’t think I’d really miss all of those extra programs and resistance levels but depending on your household you may want more user profiles.

On both, there is a USB port that functions to allow you to charge your phone and also download your results. You can track your results on a daily, weekly, and monthly basis to SchwinnConnect or MyFitnessPal.com.

On the 470, there is a 10 –degree motorized incline ramp, it works with the push of a “quick key” button. The 430 on the other hand doesn’t have such a feature. You have to manually adjust the height of your incline. I think it would suck to not have this feature and want it or even need it. Especially if you have a physical condition that limits your mobility, i.e. if you can’t bend down too far.

There are two sets of handlebars: One set doesn’t move as there for you to take your heart rate and the others are angled and cushioned to help you find a comfortable hand position.

Console

There are a lot of neat features on both of the consoles. Both have dual LCD screens that allow you to access 13 different display feedbacks. This is where you will find the USB port and access the programs. Also on the console you will find two big acoustic chamber speakers that will provide you with great quality sound during your workout.

Assembly

I’ve put together exercise equipment before and it can suck at times depending on a number of factors. First of all, you have to make sure that none of the parts are missing, which means you will need to organize and separate the pieces. Then the instructions – all too often the directions are just plain terrible. You have to make sure that you don’t over tighten, etc. It takes a long time. Then when you finally finish, you go “here did that extra washer come from…?”

If given the choice, I’d rather pay for professional installation. And this is coming from someone who is pretty good at putting at putting stuff together. Maybe it’s just a preference thing. In any case, I looked at some feedback to determine how difficult it will be put it together – the results were mixed but most people are able to do it (or have a family member do it).

From what I gather, it will take a lot patience and careful reading, and about 1 to 4 hours depending on your ability and if you have a helper.

Warranty

The warranty is the same for both. It’s a pretty good one and the details are as follows:

Frame: 10 years

Mechanical: 2 years

Electrical: 1 year

Labor: 90 days

Summary

While both of the elliptical cross trainers in the Schwinn 430 vs 470 faceoff are good options. But there are several differences that should effect your purchase decision. The biggest difference in my opinion is that with the Schwinn 470 you can easily change the level of the incline with a simple push of a button. You have to change the incline on the 430 manually. I think that this can become annoying. What if you want to adjust the incline in the middle of a workout? If it were me choosing, and price were not a big concern, I would certainly choose the Schwinn 470.
