I first discovered the Exerpeutic stationary bikes two or three years ago when my mom purchased a couple of the folding upright bikes. The work well, they have large cushioned seats and they fold up making them a breeze to find a location for them. The large seats are amazing.

Exerpeutic 900xl vs 1000: Which comfy Seat Exercise Bike Should you Choose…?

Appearance and Size

Exerpeutic 900xl Recumbent Bike

These machines are identical in appearance. They look like any other bucket-seat recumbent bike. The units are grey with some black accents, such as the feet and handle coverings. The seats are huge and the back rest is large and comfy looking. There’s really nothing that stands out about these machines appearance wise. They look pretty standard.

The legs extend out a fair amount, this is for added stability to prevent the machine from moving while in use. You’ll notice that the pedals are nice and large. This helps to prevent your feet from slipping. The dimensions for both are 22 by 34 by 54 inches (W x H x D). They weigh about 65 pounds which isn’t too heavy. The weight limit for both of these machines is 300 pounds.

Performance

Recumbent bikes offer benefits that you can’t get from other exercise machines. You are able to sit down in a comfortable position. Your joints won’t have to suffer from the intense impact that you get from other activities such as running. Heck, even traditional cycling can be rough on the knees.

Well, compared to these Schwinn Recumbent bikes, these Exerpeutic models are quite basic. You don’t get any fancy programs that will vary the intensity of the workout seamlessly. There aren’t any speakers or any USB ports or anything like that.

The resistance is made possible with a system of magnets. There are magnets that are moved towards or away from the flywheel to change the resistance. There are eight levels of intensity. To change the resistance you simply turn a knob located underneath the console. I think that they are capable of providing you with a very good and challenging workout.

You’ll notice that the pedals are nice and large. Attached are straps to prevent your feet from slipping as you pedal. The flywheel is balanced which makes operation smooth and quiet.

Console

The computer console is located front and center and will display all of the information you need to know about your workout. When you touch the handle bars, the lcd screen will display your heart rate. The distance you travelled will be displayed as well as the calories burned, the amount of time you’ve been cycling, and also the speed.

Seat

One of the most important things to consider when looking at a new exercise bike is the seat. The seat, according to customers, seems to be comfortable but there are those who claim the opposite. But it’s not just about general comfort. Can the seat accommodate a short person, say 5’3” and a tall person that’s over 6-feet tall. Well, after looking around I found that there are people ranging from short to tall, small to large, that find themselves seated comfortably.

The seat is actually the only thing that separates these two machines. The seat on the 1000 is wider and by some accounts more comfortable. Even still, there are customers who still need to use a cushion with the 1000.

One of the things that I don’t like about these machines is that you cannot adjust the seats angle. So, while customers claim that the seat is mounted in a comfortable position, some might disagree. I like machines that are flexible.

Assembly

There is some assembly required for these mostly identical recumbent bikes. It appears that assembly is easy. The instructions are easy to follow and all of the tools that you need are included.

Warranty

The warranty for either of these machines is 3 years.

Summary

There isn’t much of a difference between the recumbent bike models in the Exerpeutic 900xl vs 1000 comparison. In fact, the only difference is that the 1000 has a larger seat. This large seat might be more comfortable but some still report needing to come use an additional cushion. If I were choosing between these two modest stationary bikes, I’d go for whichever was least expensive. In any case, you can’t go wrong here.
