Braun Silk Epil 5

The Braun Silk Epil 5 and the Braun Silk Epil 7 are both women’s epilators for electric hair removable. While they are roughly the same size, they look vastly different. The Braun Silk Epil 5 is white and pink. The body itself is white and the pink comes in as an accent color on the power button and near the blades themselves. It also features a Smart light, that will help highlight any fine hairs to ensure that the user gets all the hair in one use. The Braun Silk Epil 5 also features the ability to attach different trimmer and shaver head for personalized hair removal.

The Braun Silk Epil 7 on the other hand, is almost completely white/silver. The only break from white is a darker gray to accent some of the controls. The Braun Silk Epil 7 also has a design that allows for the use of different shaver heads and trimmer caps that come with the unit. Much like the Braun Silk Epil 5, this electric epilator has a Smart light to help users see every hair for a complete shave.

Power

It is important to know if your new Braun Silk Epil 5 or your Braun Silk Epil 7 will last long enough to completely remove the hair you need removed. Unfortunately, unlike the Braun Silk Epil 7, the Braun Silk Epil 5 does not have the ability to be charged but must be plugged in throughout its entire use. The Braun Silk Epil 7, on the other hand, can be charged and then used cordlessly. With around an hour of charging, customers should expect to be able to use this product for about 40 minutes. The cordless feature of the Silk Epil 7 is a huge benefit.

Performance

Both the Braun Silk Epilator 5 and the Braun Silk Epilator 7 promise to remove hair for at least 4 weeks with each use. A few customers reported having to use these products more often than this, but overall many were happy with it. Some customers complained about ingrown hairs with this product. However, it is suggested that when using this product – which can increase the likelihood of ingrown hairs – to exfoliate with a sugar scrub or something similar.

Due to the nature of this product – tweezing out hairs at the root – there will be some pain in using these much like waxing would. Unlike waxing though, both these products will work on hairs as short as 0.5 mm, which is about 4 times shorter than the hair waxing can take care of.

Cleaning

Cleaning an epilator is important to make sure that while the machine pulls hair out no harmful bacteria is exposed to your skin. Both these epilators have a fully sealed body so that they can easily be cleaned by running them underneath water.

However, a more thorough clean may be needed from time to time but it is not a difficult process. Most epilator users find that small hairs sometimes get stuck in the head of the device and simply running it under water won’t always get all of them. To help with this problem, simply scrub the head with a toothbrush or small cleaning brush before rinsing it.

Durability

Braun Silk Epil 7

Another thing that you want to know before you invest in any product is if you will get enough use out of it to be worth it. Most customers found that these epilators were fantastic, but a few found that durability wasn’t always the Braun Silk Epil 5’s and the Braun Silk Epil 7’s strong suit. For the Braun Silk Epil 5, some customers reported being able to use their epilator for a year or more, but a few had trouble with hair getting caught in the mechanism, causing it to have a shorter lifespan. Some customers of the Braun Silk Epil 7 found that their product was fairly durable, however, a few customers mentioned using this product in the bath caused its lifespan to shorten a bit. You cannot use the Epil 5 in the bathtub, as it is corded product.

Accessories

The Braun Silk Epil 5 comes with three different trimmer and shaver heads, so you can make sure you have the proper tools to get the closest shave possible. The Braun Silk Epil 7 comes with slightly more at 5 accessories. These include a shaver head, trimmer cap for depilation, a high frequency massage cap, a sensitive area cap, a facial cap, and an efficiency cap. The Braun Silk Epil 5 also comes with a cooling glove for relief after use. The Epil 7 comes with a wall charger and the Epil 5, a power cord as it is a corded unit. They both come with a small bag for storage.

Convenient Features

These epilators have many of their best features in common. For example, each of them have a Smart light so you can easily see where your shaving and a pivoting head to adjust to any area. The cap on these can also be changed to adjust to whatever you need them to. They both also work for all skin types as well.

The Braun Silk Epil 7 has a couple extra features as well. First, it can be charged, so you don’t have to keep it plugged in as you use it. It can also be used in water as well.

Pros and Cons

There is much to brag about for both these epilators. Each of these can pluck hairs as close as 0.5 mm, so you don’t have to wait as you would with waxing for hair to be long enough. They solve your hair problems for around 4 weeks as well and can adapt to shaving different parts of the body thanks to lights, a pivoting head, and changeable caps.

Unfortunately, there are some drawbacks as well. The Braun Silk 5 has to be plugged in during use and as such, cannot be used in water. The Braun Silk 7, on the other hand, can be used in water but customers have noted it damages the unit’s durability.
