After reading about the two jump starters in the Stanley j5c09 vs j509, I am convinced that they are a tool type that everyone needs – even if you don’t go with either of these models. But, if you do decide to go with one of these models, do know that you are choosing between two great options.
Car starters can be a life saver, quite literally in fact. It’s not so far-fetched to imagine a movie-like scene starring you – the plot involves your car stalling on a cold day, the battery dies forcing you to pull over to the side of the road. You’ve probably been there before. I have.
Below, you will find all of the information that you need to make the best choice between these two.
Stanley j5c09 vs j509: Which Car Starter Should You Choose…?
Appearance and Size
These machines look identical which will add to even more confusion when comparing these two jump starters. They are black and yellow in color with a top mounted rubber handle which makes it perfect for you to easily grab. Conveniently built into the sides of the machine is where the cord storage is located. This makes the machine very compact and easy to transport.
But weight plays a big role in how easy an item is to transport. Both of these machines are listed as having an 18 pound shipping weight. An exact weight isn’t available, but some people assay that it weighs about as much as a car battery (which is nonspecific). I think that a safe guestimate is about 12 to 15 pounds.
These machines aren’t too big; as they measure about 11 x 8 x 14 inches.
Performance
Forgive me for gushing over these products but it’s just one of those essential products that most people just ignore until they need one.
So, have you ever gone outside, in the middle of the winter, only to find that your car would not start?
Both of these jump starters will save you time and money when the inevitable and almost always untimely dead battery happens upon you. I’ve had cars not start for me because of cold weather and because I did something stupid like play the radio without the car running (and without the key positioned to aux). There are also customers that use a jump starter for their cars that go into “hibernation” for the winter and have a dead battery by spring. Whatever the reason, a jump starter can come in handy.
With 500 amps of instant starting power and 1000 amps of peak power you’ll be able to start your vehicle in most situations. Your experience will also depend on the health of your battery.
But there are some reviewers that point out some important limitations. In short, you will experience best performance when the battery isn’t completely dead. When trying to revive a completely dead battery, you may experience it taking longer than advertised.
Some have even stated that they couldn’t get their car to turn over from a dead battery. Although, many users report a positive experience. A lot of customers were so satisfied with the performance of either machine that they even bought more as gifts.

Portable Power on the Go
These machines aren’t just for battery emergencies though. They are also good in other emergencies. Like when you spend too much time talking on your cell phone or when you run out of power on your laptop. Both of those situations happened to me on many different occasions.
Luckily both of these machines have a USB port and a DC power outlet. You can just plug in and charge.
Built-in Air Compressor
The only difference between the J509 and the J5C09 is that the latter has a built-in air compressor that rated up to 120 psi. What’s more is that some customers have actually confirmed that they have reached pressures close to that mark.
A hose (quite short) and compressor nozzle are included but there are many complaints about the quality. Some have even gone on to just replace them.
Built-in LED Light
Both of these models come with an LED light that can rotate 270 degrees. It will help you in low-light situations.
A few Quirks…
Unfortunately there is no charging cord to go along with this machine. You will have to use a separate 3-prong extension cord.
The battery charge life is indicated with three LED lights so it makes it a little difficult to determine exactly how much power you have left on the battery.
And, the jumper cables are short at just a couple feet in length. And on the J5C09, the rubber hose for the air pump is a bit short. This will make it awkward to reach your tires.
Maintenance
For the best experience when using these machines you should definitely follow the directions. You should charge the battery every month to make sure that it is ready for you when inevitably need it.
Warranty
The warranty for both of these machines is 1-year.
Summary
Whether you choose one of the jump starters in this Stanley J5c09 vs J509 comparison or not, you’d be wise to get one anyway. They both seem to be quality machines and are a good fit for many customers.
If I were choosing, I would definitely go with the J5c09. It’s a no-brainer. It has all of the features of the J509 but also comes with the air compressor which will help you to inflate tires in emergencies. It’s the complete package.
Even if you have a car in good shape, you never know when you might make the mistake of leaving the lights on or something. They are also good if you like to be a Good Samaritan and help others out in a jam.

…This article is titled “Stanley J509 vs J5C09 comparison “ but you never actually say what differences are between them. Actually you pretty much show how both of them have the same features.
How am I supposed to tell what’s different?…
Jeff, I do not think that you’ve read the page in its entirety. I understand that some people do not want to read the whole page and that is why there is a summary. But there are many people who appreciate the detailed information and research that goes into these comparison. Often times there is information about specific customer complaints i.e. “A hose (quite short) and compressor nozzle are included but there are many complaints about the quality. Some have even gone on to just replace them.”
While these machines are nearly identical, you will find that the difference lies in the air compressor. I even recommend that you go with the Stanley J5C09. All respectful questions, comments and critiques are welcome. Thank you!
