Brondell Swash 1000 vs Toto S300 Bidet Comparison

The Basics

The Brondell Swash 1000 and Toto s300 are both toilet seats and bidets.

Brondell Swash 1000

The round versions of both seats are almost the same size. The Toto is slightly larger than the Brondell. When it comes to the elongated version, the Brondell is 21” x 15” x 6”, whereas the Toto is significantly larger at 24” x 21” x 7”. These seats with bidets should fit on to regular round and elongated toilets.

As for pricing, the Toto s300 has been discontinued. This means they can be a bit difficult to find, but when you do find them, they tend to be for a good price as Toto has released newer models, the s350 and the s300e – these are both great models you may want to consider also. The Brondell pricing varies a lot in different stores, so it’s worth shopping around before you purchase.

Both the Toto and Brondell have sleek looks. The Toto is squarer and, in my opinion, at least, is a bit more discrete about the fact it is a bidet. The Brondell has a rounder back profile and a larger area of the seat that doesn’t lift with the lid. As for looks, users of both are pretty happy with the looks of the models they purchased which suggests these differing looks are primarily personal preference.

Both the Brondell and Toto have heated toilet seats and adjustable nozzle positions, but let’s have a look at more of their features.

Features

Both the Brondell and the Toto are packed with features, and they have different strengths and weaknesses. This means when deciding which model is right for you, you should consider which features are the most important to you. You can then consider which model does best at those features which you’re looking for.

Nozzles

The Brondell has twin nozzles made of stainless steel. They are adjustable and have an excellent self-cleaning feature. The Brondell has a wide spray and oscillating mode for posterior and feminine washes. The spray width is adjustable.  Some users have found the feminine wash does not extend far enough forward. However the majority of users have not found this to be a problem.

Some users have found the adjustable water pressure has been problematic. They have found the low setting too low to be effective and the high setting too high. However, this issue may be related to how the seat is installed or personal preference as it does not affect everyone.

The Toto also has an adjustable, self-cleaning nozzle. The Toto s300 has an oscillating and pulsing mode. Some users have found these modes a useful and welcome addition, but a small number of users have said isn’t terribly useful.

A small number of users have found their units have malfunctioned after a few years of use and the controls and cleaning modes have become erratic. This issue does not appear to be widespread. Others have found the water pressure dropped dramatically, which appears to be due to hard water build up that the self-cleaning system cannot clean. It is, however, quick and easy fix to clean the hard water buildup.

The nozzle on the Toto is a single nozzle with a feminine wash and posterior wash included on the single plastic nozzle. Many users prefer the Brondell’s stainless steel twin nozzles for peace of mind around hygiene.

Both the Brondell and Toto have instant, tankless water heating. The benefit to tankless water heating is you will never run out of warm water. Users of both report to being impressed at how quickly the water heats up. Both the Brondell and Toto have adjustable water temperatures and water volume.

Air dryer

Both the Brondell and Toto have a warm air dryer. They are both adjustable temperature.

Toto S300

While an air dryer is a great feature, they can be difficult to implement effectively. One of the users biggest complaints about the Toto s300 is that the air dryer is not strong enough to properly dry them after cleaning, which means they end up using the dryer twice, then still using toilet paper to finish.

The Brondell air dryer is a less frequent, but still present complaint about the Swash 1000. It appears air dryers on most bidets are problematic to implement so are rarely problem free.

Seat

Both models have a soft-close seat, which is quite standard on bidet seats as slamming the lid could damage the internals.

The Brondell seat is firmer than the Toto, with users reporting they can sit on the closed toilet seat which is unusual for seat/bidet combos. Brondell market the lid as ‘sittable’. The Toto s300’s seat has antibacterial properties.

Both the Brondell and Toto have heated seats with adjustable temperature control.

Some users have found their Brondell seats have broken after a few years of normal use. The seats aren’t terribly expensive to replace. However, I haven’t come across similar reports for the Toto.

Controls

Both models have wireless remote controls. The Toto has an illuminated remote for nighttime visits. Many users find the Brondell’s remote control very intuitive and easy to use.

Other Features

Brondell

  • Intelligent body sensor
  • Automatic power save mode
  • Automatic deodorizer
  • Quick release seat for ease of cleaning

Toto

  • Occupied seat sensor
  • Water filter built in
  • Carbon filter air deodorizer
  • Automatic power save mode

Warranty

The Brondell Swash 1000 comes with a three-year warranty. Brondell’s warranty system is different from what you might be used to; they have a tiered system that reduces Brondell’s liability each year after purchase. For the first year, Brondell will cover 100% of the cost of parts and labor for any repairs, for the second year, Brondell will cover 75% of the cost, and for the third year they will cover 50% of the cost of parts and labor for warranty repairs.

The Toto comes with a one-year limited warranty. Users have reported Toto’s customer service is usually good to deal with, although some users have found individual customer service agents difficult to deal with as the units need to be shipped to the manufacturer or their service agent for repair.

Summary

Both of the Bidet toilet seats in this comparison are great choices. In fact it’s pretty hard to discern between the two of them. The Brondell is sittable, meaning you can sit on the closed seat lid without worrying about breaking it. On the other hand the Toto has antimicrobial properties. However, if I were choosing between the two, I’d likely go with the Toto S300 as it seems to edge out the Brondell Swash 1000 in the durability department.
