American Standard Cambridge

Both Cambridge and Princeton are bathtub ranges manufactured by American Standard, a leading company in manufacturing of plumbing fixtures. Cambridge collection features two tubs, one of them with whirlpool features. The Princeton collection features more tubs, in various combinations of a luxury ledge, drain and above floor rough-installation. For comparison sake, we shall consider the two standard models in both the collections. Both these tubs are both made of Americast, which is a trademark of American Standard and an alternative to the usual cast iron. This makes the tub more durable, while at the same time, making it lighter and easier to install. Both these bathtubs are rectangular in shape and available in four different colors, with higher prices for a couple of colors. The colors include white, arctic, linen and bone. The tubs feature an identical glossy porcelain finish.

Design

Both the American Standard Princeton and Cambridge bathtubs take the comfort of the user seriously and showcase an integral apron and an integral lumbar support with a beveled headrest. Additionally, Princeton range includes bathtub models with luxury ledge. This is basically a wider ledge on the bathtub that makes it convenient to store toiletries for easy reach.

Both the Princeton and Cambridge bathtubs belong to the trademark DeepSoak range of American Standard, this allows for a higher level of water in the bath than the other, conventional tubs, resulting in a deeper soak, which is quite significant.  The manufacturer claims that this feature raises the water level by over 2 inches. Both tubs are ADA (American with Disabilities Act) compliant with seat installed at the head end.

Size

Identical in length at 60 inches, the American Standard Princeton and Cambridge tubs differ in their overall width and depth. The standard Princeton bathtub is about 30 inches wide and 14 inches deep. In comparison, the Cambridge bathtub is bigger, with a width of 32 inches and depth of just less than 17.5 inches. This makes the overall tub roomier and adds to the deep soaking experience.

Surface

Both the tubs have the American Standard trademark surface, i.e. the StanSure textured surface which is a full slip-resistant surface. This StanSure is a mixture of porcelain and very hard quartz. This makes the bathtub surface very safe to get in and out, and also eliminates the need of mats, which could be unsanitary sometimes. Moreover, this surface also makes it easier to clean the bath tub, and it stays clean for a longer duration of time. This adds to the convenience of customers.

Fixtures

Both the bathtubs, the American Standard Princeton and American Standard Cambridge have the option of drain outlet placement to the left or right as per your preference and bathroom design. Faucets are not included with either of the bathtubs. Both the tubs also feature a tile flange along the three wall sides of the tub.

Additional Features

As mentioned above, both the American Standard Princeton and Cambridge bathtubs are made of Americast and thus retain heat better than the other bathtubs made of cast iron and enamel steel. This helps keep the water in the bath warm for a longer time. Customers love this additional feature of these Americast tubs. Moreover, these tubs are also much quieter than the others.

Maintenance

American Standard Princeton

Both the American Standard Princeton and Cambridge bathtubs are easy to clean and maintain. The manufacturer’s website specifies clear cleaning instructions to ensure the longevity of the tub. A few users, however, have had complaints about the maintenance of Princeton tubs, saying they are not as easy to clean as described.

American Standard also offers a simple-to-use repair kit for the times when there is a chip or break. The kit consists of a color-matched filler agent that dries with a shine that matches the glossy finish of your bathtub. However, this needs to be purchased separately.

Installation

The Americast material of both these bathtubs make them lighter, and thus easy to install. Moreover, the integral apron with both these tubs makes it even faster to install, as the side of the tub facing the bathroom is pre-finished. Most of the customers love how easy it was to set up these bathtubs.

Warranty

Both the American Standard Princeton and Cambridge bathtubs are protected with a lifetime warranty by the manufacturer. However, this warranty does not hold true for commercial applications.
