Vornado 660 VS 733: Which of these high-powered Fans is Right for you...?

Size, Weight and Appearance

Vornado 660 vs 733

Vornado 733

When it comes to size and weight, these two air circulators are on very separate scales. The Vornado 660 is medium-sized and quite light whereas the Vornado 733 is heavier, larger and labeled as a ‘full-size’ fan.

They are both well-designed with smooth edges, but the Vornado 660 tops in the appearance department with its glossy look, sleek lines and minimalist design.

Colors

Both fans have two color options. The Vornado 660 can be found with either a black or white finish, while the Vornado 733 comes in either black or gray.

Range

The Vornado fans are stationary. They neither oscillate nor rotate. Rather, using the vortex circulation technique, they powerfully circulate the air in the room while remaining in a fixed position. Both fans can completely circulate the air as far as 100ft in a very short time, making them viable options for large rooms.

Construction

Both fans are constructed from quality plastic. Both the blades and grills are made of plastic, as well as the entire casing of the fans. This is quite advantageous, as it eliminates the possibility of corrosion and ensures the long-lasting use of these products.

While the grill and blades of the Vornado 733 are understandably larger than that of the 660, the design remains the same. Unlike most fans, the grills of the Vornado fans are curved and arranged in a spiral-like shape. This unique design is exclusive to Vornado fans and is responsible for the whirl-like circulation of air to very far distances. The blades are also heavily curved to assist in the vortex motion of the Vornado franchise.

Speed Settings

The Vornado 660 has 4 speed settings: Low, Medium, High and Turbo, while the Vornado 733 has only 3: Low, Medium and High. Several customers claim the 660’s extra speed setting gives the user more speed options and consequently, greater air velocity than the 733. Other customers however debated the validity of that claim by pointing out that at the Vornado 660’s highest setting (turbo speed), the speed given (584 CFM) is roughly the same as Vornado 733’s highest setting (high speed – 583 CFM).

Customers also complained about the noise level of the fans once the speed setting was increased from low to either medium, high or turbo (in the case of Vornado 660). However, of those that had experience with both, the general consensus was that the Vornado 733 was relatively quieter than the 660.

Speed Controls

The various speed settings of the Vornado 660 can be accessed by electronic buttons located on top of the fan. Rather than electronic push-buttons, the Vornado 733 is operated via a mechanical switch located at the back of the fan. Customers preferred the more modern controls of the 660 to the somewhat old-fashioned switch of the 733. The location of the controls was also another point in the 660’s favor with users claiming the location made it all the more accessible and the fan easily controlled.

The Vornado 660 has a maximum wattage of 56W and uses a maximum current of 0.5amps. On the other hand, the Vornado 733 uses a maximum current of 0.7amps and a maximum wattage of 84W. They are both energy-efficient. However, due to its larger size and a more powerful motor, the Vornado 733 consumes more power than the 660.

Convenient features

These Vornado air circulators come with a 6ft cord and customers claim the cord length is quite satisfactory. The Vornado 733 base has a dual purpose. It acts as a mounting stand and also as a handle to easily transport the fan from one room to the other. The Vornado Corporation boldly states on their website that the Vornado 733 has the most powerful Vornado motor. Several customers have supported this claim, claiming the 733 moves and circulates the air more powerfully than the Vornado 660, and is undoubtedly the more powerful fan of the two.

The modern features of the Vornado 660 is most likely responsible for its more pricey nature, but home appliances experts are of the opinion that the Vornado 733 is more useful and practical. Simply put, between these two fans, cheaper is better.

Warranty and General Performance

Both fans come with a 5-year warranty. Though several users prefer the appearance, design and electronic-control feature of the Vornado 660 to the less modern design of the Vornado 733, the feedback from customers have seems to show that the 733 is a more durable fan. Summary and Recommendation

The Vornado 660 vs 733 is a comparison between two very good stationary fans. While neither model can oscillate or rotate, they make up for this by having a very good air flow being able to cover a distance of up to 100 feet away. The 660 has a more attractive design with its gloss finish but the more throwback 733 is still a decent looking machine. The 660 is easier to use and has more speed options and directional airflow options, but in reality the highest speeds on both machines are about the same. Beyond the superficial, what really separates these units is the durability. Based on customer feedback the 733 seems to be the more durable of the two. If I were choosing, I’d certainly go for the 733.
