Oliso TG1100 vs TG1600: Which Super-Iron is Right for You...?

Soleplate Construction and Design

oliso 1100 vs 1600

Oliso 1100

The Oliso TG1100 and TG1600 have durable soleplates constructed from stainless steel. The high quality construction of the plate gives it a textured surface that is still capable of gliding easily over your clothing items. The soleplates are also reputed to be scratch-resistant.

When it comes to the soleplate design, there is a slight difference between the two. Both plates are designed with tiny steam holes for the dispensing of steam onto your cloth during ironing. However, the TG1100 possesses a greater number of steam holes than the Oliso TG1600. This however in no way makes the TG1100 of higher steam power or efficiency than the TG1600. Another key difference between the two irons is that the soleplate of the TG1600 has a larger pressing surface.

Both irons are designed with a pointed tip. This detailer tip makes it very easy to iron tight and detailed areas on clothes such as pockets, cuffs etc.

iTouch Technology

The iTouch technology is an exclusive design to only Oliso smart irons. It saves users from manually resting their irons in an upright motion when not in use. The Oliso irons are designed in such a way that once your hand leaves the handle, scorch guards or ‘legs’ as several users term it extend from the iron, raising it some inches above your ironing purpose. This automatic feature prevents scorching or burn marks on clothes when users forget to put the iron in an upright position when not in use.

Some users love this standout feature of both Oliso irons as it reduces the risk of accidents caused by the upright iron being knocked over by mistake. With this feature, your Oliso irons remain in a horizontal positon throughout the ironing process.  However, there have been several complaints about this feature from a number of TG1100 users. They claim the legs do not properly extend out of the iron and even get jammed during the process, rendering the iTouch technology feature quite redundant.

Size

Despite the TG1600’s larger soleplate, both irons are equal in size, height and weight.

Water Tank Capacity and Location

Both come with an equal tank capacity reputed to be adequate enough for a substantial ironing session. Unlike most irons whose water tanks are located in front of the handle, these Oliso irons have their water tanks located below the handle. The tanks can also be loaded from the side with their convenient side-access feature.

Oliso advises its customers to fill the tanks with regular tap water only. Using distilled water would slowly remove the protective minerals in the iron and consequently lead to its breakdown.

Steam Feature

These irons are equipped to dispense steam onto the material being ironed via several steam options. In the continuous steam mode, the iron emits constant steam when the handle is touched. Also, on pressing the steam button, a strong burst of steam is released and helps in eliminating stubborn wrinkles. Other steam options include vertical and horizontal steaming for various ironing purposes.

Steam, Temperature and Water Spray Controls

Most irons have their controls below the handle and in other not-so-easily-accessed locations. The Oliso TG1100 and TG1600 have their controls located on the handle. This makes it very easy for users to select steam modes, adjust temperature and spray a fine mist when necessary.

Anti-Drip Feature

Both irons come with a standard anti-drip feature to prevent leaking. However, a decent amount of users claim that these Oliso irons spit and leak quite frequently.

Auto Shut-Off Feature

Both Oliso irons have an auto shut-off feature. The TG1100 will enter shut-down mode if left untouched for 8 minutes. If the iron is tilted, the heat will turn off in 30 seconds.

In the event that the iTouch feature has been turned off by the user, the legs or scorch guards will extend if the iron is left idle after 30 seconds. The heat will also shut down after 1 minute of inactivity. To re-activate the iron, the user just has to touch the handle.

For the TG1600, the auto shut-off time is way longer than that of the TG1100. It shuts down after 30 minutes of being idle compared to the 8 minutes of the TG1100. Both irons are reputed to be self-cleaning.

Convenient Features

Oliso 1600

The Oliso TG1600 comes with an indicator light like most irons. However, while the indicator light of other irons goes off once the soleplate reaches the desired temperature, the TG1600’s indicator light the light blinks when it is warming up and turns a solid green when it is ready for use. It remains green during use and turns red when left idle for 30 minutes, indicating it is in sleep mode. This helps users to know exactly what state their iron is from checking the indicator light.

Both irons come with a pivoting cord for easy maneuverability while ironing. However, the TG1600 cord is longer than that of the TG1100.

Durability

A large amount of users claim these irons are not-so-durable, as the irons break down after a short period of use of at most a year.

Power

Both smart irons have a power rating of 1800W, and are designed for use in a standard 110-120v AC outlet. However, with the use of an adapter, it can be used in a 240v power outlet.

Summary

When it comes to choosing between the Oliso TG1100 and TG1600, I would likely choose the 1100. Many times the more upgraded model is going to outperform the lesser one, however, based on the prices that I’ve come across, I don’t think that the extras you get with the 1600 are worth the increase in price. They both have the same power rating (1800 watts), easily accessible controls, and the very cool iTouch feature. These are the most important features. Overall customers seem to be satisfied with both of these machines. Save your cash and go with the Oliso TG1100.
